Faith-based initiative brings relief to Soweto communities

The initiative brought beneficiaries together in a shared act of faith, remembrance, and community support.

The Tshepo Makole Foundation successfully hosted its 2026 Easter, Lord’s Passover and Supper initiative on April 01.

Aimed at supporting vulnerable and needy communities across Soweto, the initiative began in Naledi and concluded in Dube, bringing beneficiaries together in a shared act of faith, remembrance, and community support.

Founded in 2010 and officially registered with the Department of Social Development in 2011, the Tshepo Makole Foundation continues to operate without consistent funding, relying largely on community support and faith-driven initiatives.

Founder of the foundation, Tshepo Makole, told Urban News that, despite several logistical challenges, including delays in the collection and distribution of essential food supplies and groceries, the foundation remained committed to delivering on its mission.

“The foundation provided nourishment and restored dignity to those in need. Beneficiaries received a range of essential food items, including maize meal, vegetables, fish, bread, cold drinks, eggs, flour, and tea or coffee supplies.

“While wine was not included due to limitations from a supporting partner, the foundation ensured that the symbolic elements of the occasion were upheld through the sharing of bread and a meal,” said Makole.

He further noted that, as it was the first time hosting an event of this nature, it encountered some resistance and criticism from members of the public.

Makole said, regardless of the criticism, the foundation remained steadfast, drawing strength from its faith and commitment to service.

The Tshepo Makole foundation expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, noting that the initiative’s success was made possible by perseverance and faith despite the challenges encountered along the way.
