Planned maintenance by Johannesburg Water leads to 12 hours with little to no water
Residents in parts of Johannesburg, including Soweto, Sandton, Midrand and Randburg, are urged to store enough water as Rand Water's phase two maintenance, supported by Eskom, is expected to cause low water pressure or intermittent water supply for up to 12 hours, with full recovery taking up to seven days.
Residents are reminded that the second phase of Rand Water’s planned maintenance will take place on July 17 from 07:00 to 19:00.
The first phase of the maintenance was carried out from May 29 to June 2 and was successfully completed. The second phase will include electrical work by Eskom at Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch substation.
In a statement, Johannesburg Water confirmed that Rand Water will reduce pumping capacity at some of its systems, resulting in low water pressure or no water in parts of Johannesburg Water’s supply network during the maintenance period and the subsequent recovery phase.

Areas expected to be affected include Soweto, Sandton, Linksfield, Midrand, Lenasia, Roodepoort and Randburg, among others.
Recovery will be gradual as reservoirs refill, system pressure is restored and water supply stabilises across the network. Full system recovery is expected to take between five and seven days.
Residents are urged to store enough water for daily use ahead of the planned maintenance.
Johannesburg Water will also implement measures to reduce the impact on affected residents by providing alternative water supplies where required.
