Justice sought for Meadowlands woman found murdered near local school
Community members discovered the lifeless body of 39-year-old Lebogang Sikwane near Masekhene Primary School in Soweto.
The Sikwane family were in disbelief as they came to terms with the brutal killing of their daughter, Lebogang Sikwane (39), found dead close to Masekhene Primary School in Meadowlands Zone 3, Soweto, on November 10.
The family spokesperson, Tshepiso Maphike, said community members discovered her aunt’s body. She had been missing and was last seen on November 8 at approximately 3pm after attending a funeral. Her disappearance raised eyebrows as she did not return home the next day.
“Community members came to the house at around 6am, saying they saw a corpse and believed that it was Lebogang. My uncle went there and identified her.

“Some community members also confirmed that they had heard a wheelie bin in the early morning around our street, all the way leading to where they found her body,’’ said Maphike.
The deceased suffered injuries on her forehead from what seemed like a gunshot, a broken wrist, and bruises on her body.
She told Urban News that community members discovered a trail of blood from where the deceased was to the same street where she resided, at Itumeleng Street, to a house close by.
She added that the police discovered a gruesome scene at this house – a room filled with blood and the suspect, who had scratches on his face.

An emotional Maphike said: “My aunt grew her nails, and I know for sure that the scratches on his face are from her. She was fighting for her life and fought very hard.’’
With the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign approaching, the family is heartbroken and struggling to come to terms with this.
They added that they usually hear these stories of women who are brutally killed and never thought they would lose their own to such a heinous act.
The family confirmed the suspect had no relation to Lebogang. They knew him as a community member.
Lebogang leaves behind three children.
A case has been opened with the SAPS, and the family awaits further information and hopes that justice prevails.
