Boxer Super Run debuts in Joburg with Mphahlele and Xaba taking the crown
The event combines fitness with community spirit, offering an energetic atmosphere and great entertainment, making it a lively celebration of movement, health and togetherness.
The Boxer Super Run Durban (BSRD) brought its winning form to Johannesburg, crowning the King and Queen, Ryan Mphahlele and Glenrose Xaba, of the 5km at the inaugural Boxer Super Run Joburg (BSRJ) held at the Marks Park Sports Club on November 9.
Catering to runners of all abilities, the Boxer Super Run (BSR) offered five start waves: the open wave for club and competitive runners, the super social wave for fun groups and dressed-up teams, the elite women’s and elite men’s waves for top-tier invited athletes, and a 1km kids wave to inspire young runners.

The event combined fitness with community spirit, creating an energetic atmosphere filled with entertainment and excitement.

Lee-Ann Pillay, head of department marketing at Boxer Superstores, shared her excitement about the success of the inaugural event.
“We are incredibly proud to have brought the spirit of the BSR to Johannesburg for the first time in 2025.
“This event perfectly reflects what the Boxer brand stands for – community, energy and the celebration of health and togetherness.”
She went on to congratulate the elite athletes for their outstanding performances and thanked all runners who took part.
Mphahlele crossed the finish line first in the elite men’s wave with an impressive time of 14 minutes 20 seconds on a tough course.
The elite women’s wave delivered equal excitement, with Xaba dominating from start to finish to claim gold in a well-deserved time of 16:14.

“The race was tough. From 2km to 4km it was really challenging, but I’m glad I was able to run a good time on such a short course.
“One of my goals was to win all the races in the different cities, Durban, Tshwane and Joburg, and I’ve achieved that. I’m very happy. Thank you, Boxer. This is my home and I’ll definitely be back next year,” said an elated Xaba.
Mphahlele said the race was fun and praised the inclusion of the social runners’ event, which helps bring the broader running community together. He added that it is not just about the elite athletes, but about growing the social running movement.
Managing director of Stillwater Sports, Michael Meyer, said the debut of the BSR in Johannesburg was an incredible success and that they could not have asked for a better way to introduce this exciting event to the city.
