Motorists warned about car theft trend in Tshepisong and nearby areas

Residents say suspects are targeting vehicles left unattended at garages and food outlets in Tshepisong and Leratong Village.

Motorists in Tshepisong and nearby communities have been urged to remain vigilant following reports of a growing car theft trend targeting vehicles left unattended, even for short periods.

Residents in Tshepisong, Leratong Village and surrounding areas say suspects are taking advantage of drivers who briefly leave their cars unlocked or running at garages and food outlets.

According to community reports, suspects watch potential victims and, within seconds of them stepping away, enter the vehicle and drive off before the owner realises what has happened.

In a recent incident, a man reportedly stopped at a local garage to check his tyres when suspects allegedly drove off with his car.

Jerome Ndabandaba from the Tshepisong Community Safety Office said the vehicle was later recovered with the help of community members and police.

Although the car was recovered, no arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing.

Ndabandaba urged motorists to take extra precautions and ensure their vehicles are properly secured and locked at all times to prevent opportunistic theft.
