Four killed in linked Ezimbuzini informal settlement shootings
Police say the multiple shooting incidents at the settlement are linked, while the shooters remain unknown.
Four people have died following a series of linked shooting incidents in Ezimbuzini Informal Settlement.
According to the Orlando police’s spokesperson, Sergeant Nomvula Mbense, police responded to a complaint in the area on May 10, where they found the body of a man lying face down near a fast-food establishment with a gunshot wound to the head. Two cartridges were found at the scene.
The deceased was identified as a Lesotho national.

“Another man was found further in the area, and he was shot once on the right side under the ribs, and one spent bullet was found. Additional information received by the member alleged that a third victim, a woman, who is known, was shot in the leg and was rushed to the hospital for treatment,” said Mbense.
Police said the gunman or men fled the scene and remain unknown.
In an update on May 11, police responded to a case at the hospital and learned that the injured woman died as a result of the shooting.
Police proceeded to the scene at the informal settlement, where the husband of the woman alleged that the incident occurred at about 23:00 when he heard gunshots being fired outside his dwelling, leading to his wife being shot.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that two gunshots were found on the side of their dwelling and the other two at the back of the shack.”
In a further update on May 13, police responded to a complaint after the body of a Mozambican man was found inside a dwelling at the informal settlement.
“The girlfriend alleged that on May 10, at around 21:45, she was sitting with her boyfriend in their dwelling when they heard gunshots.
“She said that a commotion was coming their way, and their door was slightly open. Her boyfriend attempted to close the door when he was shot in his right thigh.”

He was transported to the hospital by ambulance and discharged on May 11.
“The following day, he started complaining about pains, and his girlfriend allegedly took him to a clinic where he was treated, and they went home. Later that day, he experienced complications and died.”
Mbense concluded that all these cases are linked and the gunmen remain unknown at this stage.
