The entity apologised to residents for the inconvenience and asked for patience as the system stabilises.

Spokesperson Muzi Mkhwanazi said services are expected to improve once the new teams fully adapt to Pikitup’s operating procedures.

“Waste collection services should stabilise and improve once the newly appointed fleet service providers are fully accustomed to our operational schedule and collection rounds,” he said.

The Zondi depot experienced some of the earliest disruptions, with certain rounds resuming on Tuesday, December 2. Remaining collections are expected to be completed over the next few days.

Pikitup assured residents that it is monitoring the transition closely to minimise interruptions.
