The SCC graduation at Zola Primary School celebrated 20 top performers who developed coding projects addressing real-world issues like bullying, thanks to a partnership with GirlCode.

Vumatel marked the conclusion of its 10-week Schools Coders Club (SCC) programme at Zola Primary School (ZPP) in Soweto with a graduation ceremony and Hackathon showcase on July 29.

The ceremony celebrated the achievements of 20 top-performing learners, who presented coding projects aligned with this year’s anti-bullying theme.

Vumatel marked the conclusion of its 10-week Schools Coders Club programme at Zola Primary School.

Launched in partnership with the NPO GirlCode, the programme introduced 708 Grade 1 to 7 learners at Zola Primary to foundational coding skills in Scratch, HTML, and CSS over a six-week period.

“Seeing our learners embrace coding with such excitement and creativity has been inspiring.

“The SCC has opened their eyes to new possibilities, proving that even in a primary school classroom, future tech innovators are born.We are grateful to Vuma and GirlCode for this opportunity,” said Sibusiso Nkomo, principal of ZPP.

Divided into four teams – Together We Rise, One Voice-One Change, Anti-Bullying Avengers, and Coding Champs – the learners competed in front of their peers, teachers, and proud parents. After a fierce competition, the Coding Champs emerged as the ultimate winners.

More than just a coding programme, the Vuma SCC empowers learners to use technology to solve real-world challenges, boosting confidence, creativity, and curiosity.
