Joburg motorists warned of major road closures ahead of G20 Summit
Motorists in Johannesburg are urged to plan ahead as the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) confirms rolling road closures on November 15 for the G20 Leaders’ Summit.
The RTMC has announced that several key routes in the City of Johannesburg will experience temporary closures and traffic disruptions on Saturday, November 15, ahead of the G20 Leaders’ Summit.
According to the RTMC, the rolling road closures will take place between 09:00 and 13:00 as part of a co-ordinated traffic management operation involving the Gauteng Traffic Police, Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) and the South African Police Service (SAPS).
The joint operation aims to enhance public safety, enforce traffic compliance and support congestion management as world leaders arrive in the city.

Roads and areas affected
The temporary restrictions will affect several major highways, including the N1, M1 and N12, as well as key arterial routes across Johannesburg.
Roads expected to experience delays include Rivonia Road, Grayston Drive, Oxford Road, Jan Smuts Avenue, Winnie Mandela Drive, Rand Show Road, Hendrick Potgieter Road, Nasrec Road and the Golden Highway.
Residents and motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time and consider alternative routes during the operation.
Suggested alternative routes
Roodepoort area: Use Beyers Naudé Drive, Christiaan de Wet Road or Ontdekkers Road instead of Hendrik Potgieter Road.
Fourways: Use Main Road, Cedar Road or Witkoppen Road.
Sandton/ Rosebank/ Parktown: Use parallel streets to Jan Smuts, Oxford or Rivonia Road, such as Corlett Drive, Sandton Drive or 11th Avenue.

Southern Johannesburg (Riverlea, Nasrec, Ormonde View): Use Chris Hani Road, Main Reef Road, Crownwood Road (Fordsburg–Crown Mines), Soweto Highway, N17, Aerodrome Road or Adcock Ingram Road.
The RTMC assured the public that clear signage, traffic officers and real-time traffic updates will be available to assist road users. Access for emergency and essential services will remain a priority throughout the operation.
The corporation has urged all motorists to plan their journeys in advance to avoid delays and ensure safety on the roads.
