Pikitup warns public about fake job advert claiming 550 vacancies
Pikitup has warned job seekers about a fraudulent social media advert falsely claiming the waste management entity is recruiting general workers at a salary of more than R10k per month.
Pikitup has warned the public about a fake job advertisement circulating on social media and messaging platforms that falsely claims the waste management entity is recruiting 550 general workers.
The advert allegedly offers a monthly salary of R10 616.36, excluding benefits, and directs applicants to submit their details through a website referred to as the “Daily Update Site” or via WhatsApp on 061 282 9668.
Pikitup has distanced itself from the advertisement, confirming that neither the website nor the contact number is linked to the organisation.

Managing director Bukelwa Njingolo urged members of the public not to respond to the advert, warning that such scams target vulnerable job seekers.
“Fraudulent job advertisements are highly insensitive to people who are desperately seeking employment and have the potential to defraud unsuspecting applicants. These acts not only exploit vulnerable individuals but also have the potential to disrupt Pikitup’s operations,” she said.
The entity reiterated that it does not charge fees for job applications and advised job seekers to verify vacancies through its official communication channels or by contacting its human resources department directly.
Pikitup said this is not an isolated incident, noting that similar fraudulent advertisements circulated in February 2025 and May, highlighting an ongoing trend of scams targeting unemployed individuals.
The organisation urged the public to remain vigilant and verify recruitment information before sharing personal details or responding to job offers.
