Diepkloof men receive free haircuts and clothes
The event saw community organisations and corporate partners collaborate to bring hope to locals.
Two organisations successfully hosted a Community Clothing and Free Haircut Drive at the Waterwax informal settlement in Soweto on July 11.
The initiative, which was a collaboration between the Soweto Raising Men of Value Africa, founded by Boitumelo Kgasi, and the Mama Monica Foundation, founded by Roselyn Tshwane, aimed to restore dignity, inspire hope, and support vulnerable families living in the newly developed informal settlement. Community members received donated clothing, while boys and men were offered free haircuts by Mobile Barber, proudly sponsored by McDonald’s.
Speaking after the event, Boitumelo said their mission is to build character and strengthen families.
“A simple haircut or a donated item of clothing may seem small, but to someone in need, it restores confidence, dignity, and reminds them that they are not forgotten,” Boitumelo said.

He also extended heartfelt appreciation to the Mobile Barber for providing professional grooming services and to McDonald’s for sponsoring the haircut drive.
“Their generosity helped bring smiles and renewed confidence to many members of the Waterwax community.”
Roselyn added that organisations unite with one purpose: To create lasting change.
“We are grateful to every volunteer, donor, and partner who made this initiative possible.”
