Rising Soweto artist to drop new single Dubai in November

Born with a melody in his heart and a passion that only grows stronger, Dylan Maponya, known as Masupa De Mc, is an upcoming musician from Protea Glen Ext 16, Soweto, who has been crafting his musical identity since childhood.

Masupa’s captivating, emotive, and raw vocals are poised to make a significant and enduring contribution to music.

Motivated by his friends, Masupa started making music back in 2018 while he was still in Grade Six.

“My two friends, Neo and Mandla, used to record tracks using their phones. They motivated my music journey and would play the tracks for me at school.

“Because of our love and passion for music, we used to skip class and sneak into recording sessions on the Tune Me app,” said Masupa.

When he got to high school in 2020, he started studio sessions with Mneos, where he recorded his debut single Yakhal Imbololo with Ezase Vula Vala, and from there never looked back.

As an emerging artist, he faced the challenge of finding the right manager to help him navigate the industry – a challenge that has limited his gig opportunities.

“When I get gigs, I’m not paid according to what I charge or deserve,” he said.

Like any other artist, Masupa has goals he wishes to achieve in the industry.

“My short-term goal is to be signed under a record label and find a manager to help and guide me through my start as an artist.”

“My long-term goal is to open my own label, bring on upcoming artists, and help them grow. I also want to buy taxis, start a logistics company, and perform abroad,” said Masupa.

He mentioned he is currently working on a single titled Dubai, which will be released in November 2025 after he writes his final matric exams, as well as a five-track EP with Mneos Rsa & Xclusive Momo, set for release in December.
