Over 380 suspects arrested during major police operations in Johannesburg

The aim of the operations was to maximise police visibility, reduce crime in hotspots and high-risk areas, and address all forms of criminality.

Over 380 suspects were arrested for various crimes during police operations held across the Johannesburg District between June 27 and 29.

These included Operation Shanela, station commander’s operations, high-density operations, and ad hoc roadblocks.

The operations were aimed at increasing police visibility, reducing crime by targeting known hotspots and high-risk areas across two stations, and tackling all forms of criminal activity.

Sixty suspects were arrested during station commander’s operations conducted by various police stations in the district.

In Kliptown, police arrested two suspects for house robbery. In Orlando and Moroka, district officers apprehended one suspect for possession of drugs, while three more were arrested in Moffatview.

In Johannesburg Central, ten suspects were taken into custody for contravening the Private Security Industry Regulation Act (PSIRA).

An additional 12 suspects were arrested during high-density operations conducted by stations including Diepkloof, Jeppe, and Booysens.

In Jabulani, a 51-year-old man was arrested in White City for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.

District detectives also traced and arrested approximately 203 individuals for various offences, including contact crimes, contact-related crimes, property crimes, and other serious offences.

All arrested suspects are expected to appear in various magistrates’ courts soon.
