Clipper race fleet to reach Cape Town on Saturday

The front runners of the twelve-strong matched fleet of 70 foot ocean racers competing in the Clipper 2013-14 Round the World Yacht Race will arrive in Cape Town on Saturday.

After racing nearly 4,000 miles from Rio de Janeiro the partly South African crew aboard Invest Africa were closing in on the current leader GREAT Britain, just 30 miles ahead.

After a slow start to Race 3 of the 16 race global series, Invest Africa made a triumphant come back climbing its way up the leader board from twelfth place to second, and will be doing all it can to challenge GREAT Britain for first place, while keeping a close eye on Henri Lloyd which is just 10 miles behind in third position.
“As a team we are working as hard as we can to try and catch GREAT Britain while also trying to shake Henri Lloyd off our tail,” Invest Africa skipper Rich Gould said.

“With the mileage we have left between us and Cape Town a lot could still happen. For now it looks like we have managed to out run the ridge of high pressure that seems to be plaguing some of the fleet that are slightly further South West of us.
I’m just hoping we manage to maintain this progress.”

The first group of yachts will arrive at the V&A Waterfront from late Saturday morning.
