AmaZulu and Pirates share the spoils

AmaZulu and Orlando Pirates played to a 0-0 draw in an entertaining Absa Premiership match at King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday night.

Gabadinho Mhango could have given Pirates a lead in as early as the fifth minute when he was picked up by Thembinkosi Lorch inside the box, but the Malawian striker shot over the crossbar from close range.

Usuthu almost took the lead in the 10th minute, but Siyethemba Sithebe’s long range shot hit the crossbar, with Pirates keeper Wayne Sandilands well-beaten.

It was the home side that survived the scare seven minutes later when Pule flicked the ball with his header and it beat goalkeeper Boshoff, but not the post.

Mhango had a chance to redeem himself in the 28th minute when he beat his marker, but shot way wide of goals from close range.

Four minutes later Thapelo Xoki almost put the ball into his own net, but his miscued shot went wide of goals.

The game remained 0-0 at the half-time break.

Pirates continued to pile on the pressure on AmaZulu and were almost rewarded for their efforts in the 53rd minute, but Pule shot wide from close range after a good build up.

Sibusiso Mabiliso came close to giving AmaZulu the lead in the 69th minute, but his beautifully taken shot missed the target by inches. It was to be his last contribution in the match as he was substituted few minutes later after suffering an injury.
Both teams made a couple of changes in an effort to change the complexion of the game, but in the end they had to settle for a goalless draw, a draw which ended the losing streaks of both sides.

Andre De Jong was named Man-of-the-Match following his good displays for AmaZulu.
