AmaZulu had a good game plan – Komphela

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has admitted that AmaZulu had a good game plan against his team.

This comes after Chiefs were held to a goalless draw at a wet King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday night.

“They played a pressing game tonight,” Komphela was quoted as saying by the club’s website.

“They didn’t give us space to play our normal game, which meant that we didn’t get the chance to express ourselves. The conditions didn’t make it easy as well.”

“They missed a penalty,” continued Komphela, “once more, congratulations to Itumeleng Khune for saving it.”

“We had our chances, but we did not take them so we will take this draw. Calvin Johnson is a fine coach, and he had a good game plan. They hassled us, especially in midfield. One has to admire their competitive spirit.”

Komphela also explained his decision to bench Eric Mathoho and start with Teenage Hadebe at the back.

“Teenage gave us the balance in our backline of three centre-backs, because he’s left-footed. I thought he passed the test on debut.”

The draw meant that Chiefs are now in sixth position on Absa Premiership log with 15 points, just three behind log leaders Baroka FC.
