Chiefs coach rules out Khune’s return

Ernst Middendorp has dismissed reports that the goalkeeper would be ready for the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in June.

This comes after reports suggested that Itumeleng Khune could make a return for Chiefs in time for the upcoming Afcon.

The reports were further fueled by Bafana coach Stuart Baxter’s comment that Khune had started training with Chiefs.

“Let’s be honest‚ today is nearly the end of April‚ and until now he has not even trained with any ball involved at all,” Middendorp told reporters after his side’s 1-1 draw against Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.

“I think we should not… I don’t know, every three weeks I have to answer this question, but there is no chance…100%.

“If somebody dreams about having Itu Khune into Afcon‚ where he is not even at training. Sorry‚ it is totally unserious‚ it is dishonest,” added the Chiefs mentor.
