Chiefs monitoring Chabalala’s situation at Pirates

Kaizer Chiefs are said to have shown interest in Orlando Pirates defender Justice Chabalala.

Reports have emerged that Chabalala could be released by Pirates before the start of the new season.

And now a source has told Phakaaathi that Chiefs are monitoring the player’s situation and could snatch him on a free transfer.

“Ernst (Middendorp) has recommended Justice to the Chiefs management. He believes that he could be the solution to the Chiefs’ centre back problem, but Chiefs do not want to buy a player that they could possibly get on a free transfer, so they’re monitoring his situation at Pirates,” said the source.

“You must remember that it was Middendorp who promoted Justice at Free State Stars, so he knows what he can offer,” added the source.

Chabalala’s agent, Ratshibvumo Mulovhedzi of Rush Hour Sports Management, could neither confirm nor deny the Chiefs rumours.

“All I can say is that Justice belongs to Pirates, so any club that is interested in him should contact Pirates. It was a tough season for him, last season, but Justice is a fighter and he’s prepared to fight for his place at Pirates next season,” said Mulovhedzi.

“But like I said before, everything depends on Pirates if they want to keep him or not. Justice is a Pirates player until the club says otherwise,” added Mulovhedzi.

Chabalala joined Pirates from Free State Stars in 2016. He spent six months on loan at Chippa in January 2017.

Last season Chabalala failed to make a single appearance for Pirates and that is what has raised the speculation that he could be released.
