Chippa coach rates Sundowns higher than Chiefs

Chippa United coach Vladislav Herić says he cannot compare Kaizer Chiefs with Mamelodi Sundowns as he believes that the Chloorkop-based side is bigger and stronger than the Naturena outfit.

The Chilli Boys lost 2-0 to Masandawana on Wednesday night in the Absa Premiership ahead of their encounter with Amakhosi this Saturday.

“Sundowns were the champions of Africa (in 2016) and Kaizer Chiefs are not,” said Herić.

“These are different teams. In all the positions, Sundowns have very strong players. They have three national team goalkeepers. Come on… we do not need to compare Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs,” he added.

Chippa will be looking to complete a maiden league double over the Glamour Boys as they beat Chiefs 1-0 in the first round. However, the Serbian does acknowledge that Steve Komphela’s third-placed Chiefs will be favorites on Saturday.

“But for us, it is the same thing because we consider them (Chiefs) as favorites in the game and we have to respect that. It will keep us on our toes and make us hungrier to win the game,” he said.

“When I was a player I liked those kinds of games and I performed better. I expect the same from my players, to put in more seriousness, more effort and dedication to those games because these are the games that they prove who they are and put themselves on the market,” Herić concluded.
