Danny Jordaan speaks out on rape charge against him

SA Football Association (Safa) president Danny Jordaan has welcomed Jennifer Ferguson’s decision to lay rape charges against him.

This comes after Ferguson opened a rape case against Jordaan at Johannesburg’s Parkview Police Station over the weekend.

The musician and former ANC MP claims that Jordaan raped her at a Port Elizabeth hotel 24 years ago.

Jordaan’s lawyer Mamodupi Mohlala-Mulaudzi says the court proceedings will allow the South African public the opportunity to get to the truth.

“Dr Jordaan has said that from the time that Ms Ferguson first made these allegations on social media, the legal system is the only forum in which her version can be tested,” Mohlala-Mulaudzi told EWN.

“The court proceedings will allow him and the South African public the opportunity to get to the truth.”

Meanwhile, Ferguson says there are more women who are going to come forward as sexual abuse survivors in the rape case against Jordaan.

“We know there are more than just the three of us. We just have to make them feel safe and ensure their identities can be protected. There is a huge amount of fear. Rape victims are not only fighting stigma in society, but there’s a huge concern about safety,” Ferguson told 702’s Eusebius McKaiser.

Jordaan has denied the allegations.
