Danny Jordaan to stay on as Safa president
The Football Transformation Forum (FTF) have claimed that the battle for the presidency of the South African Football Association (Safa) is a non-starter, and that Danny Jordaan will be re-elected for a second term at the Safa congress on March 24.

“The FTF believe the election process is already over,” said FTF secretary Mzwandile Maforvane, who is also a member of Safa’s National Executive Committee, at a press conference in Johannesburg yesterday.
“The Safa regions have already taken a decision, we know for a fact that the coastal provinces and inland provinces have had separate meetings, where they declared their preferred candidate, and it was Dr Jordaan all the way.”

Former Bafana captain Lucas Radebe and former Safa vice-president Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana have thrown their hats in the ring to challenge Jordaan, but the FTF continue to insist that neither can be eligible to run for president, according to the statues of Safa.
“No one can contest for the Safa presidency unless they serve on Safa’s structures as a member,” said Maforvane.

Nonkonyana was suspended by Safa as vice-president in 2014, after comments he had made the previous year that the Bafana coach at the time, Gordon Igesund, should get the sack if he failed to reach the final of the 2014 African Nations Championship.
“Nonkonyana is not eligible to stand on March 24, he was expelled by the Safa regions in 2014 and has not been reinstated,” said Maforvane, who also reasserted that Nonkonyana has lost many court cases against Safa and that they believe he owes them the cost of those cases.
As for Radebe, Safa NEC member Poobalan Govindasamy explained that the fact that former star is serving on a Safa technical committee does not mean he is a member of Safa’s structures.
