Former Chiefs striker launches his own soccer team

Established just under a year ago, Newcastle Warriors has made big strides on the soccer turf.

From its inception in September 2017 under the guidance of Justice Sithole, a former striker for Kaizer Chiefs, the team has evolved into the team to beat in the SAFA (South African Football Association) SAB (South African Breweries) League.

Sithole explained his team came from varied backgrounds, with some players stemming from such tragic and horrific circumstances, they had to recover first before they were able to focus their energy on being professional soccer stars.

“It has always been my dream to come back to my home town and start a soccer team. When I left Newcastle to go play professionally, I knew the amount of talent I was leaving behind in this town and I knew I had to come back and do something about that.”

The launch function was attended by Mayor, Makhosini Nkosi, whose speech touched on the importance of sport, focusing primarily on the role of soccer in encouraging social cohesion and youth development.
