Hunt and Majoro win monthly Premiership awards

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt and striker Lehlohonolo Majoro have been named as the Absa Premiership Coach and Player of the Month for February.

Hunt returned to the podium for the monthly recognition awards at the Premier Soccer League offices for the first time in the 2017/18 season after guiding his side to a string of impressive outings during the month of February.

In that period, Hunt managed to make positive changes to his squad and got his team to move away from the bottom of the log, winning two tough away games at Golden Arrows and Cape Town City, while they played to a draw against title-chasing Kaizer Chiefs at home.

The judges commended Hunt for keeping his cool during difficult times in the first round of the season and maintaining his discipline even when results weren’t forthcoming to see Bidvest Wits eventually bounce back to winning ways in the second round of the campaign.

Hunt beat Maritzburg United’s Fadlu Davis, Free State Stars’ Luc Eymael and Orlando Pirates coach Miluton Sredojevic to win the award, which was voted for by a panel of broadcast media, analysts and former players.

Bidvest Wits’ latest addition to the squad and in-form striker in the league Majoro beat Mamelodi Sundowns’ Percy Tau, Orlando Pirates striker Justin Shonga and Itumeleng Khune of Kaizer Chiefs to win the individual Player of the Month accolade.

Majoro saw the panel of judges single him out as the best-performing player in that period owing to the four crucial goals he scored in the three games, which helped his side turn their fortunes around during a difficult period and climb to the top half of the standings.

He brought hope to a struggling Wits side, and is a constant problem for defenders.
