Hunt calls on Gamal to focus

Gavin Hunt says there is still a future for Amr Gamal at Bidvest Wits, but also suggested that the Egyptian striker needs to regain his focus if he is to win a place back in the Clever Boys team.

Gamal sat in the stands again as Wits beat Pamplemousses SC of Mauritius 2-0 in their Caf Champions League preliminary qualifying round first leg match at Bidvest Stadium on Saturday.

He was instrumental in Wits’ victory in last year’s Telkom Knockout, with three goals, but scored just twice in the league before Christmas and has not played this year, with a move from Wits failing to materialise in the January transfer window.

“I chatted to him, he wanted to leave in the window, he felt he wasn’t fitting in and I said ‘okay, no problem’,” said Hunt, after Wits’ victory on Saturday evening.

“The club agreed but nothing came about. So I said ‘right, the window is closed and you need to shape up, you are good enough, that is why we signed you’.
