Hunt hoping to land Pirates’ Mobara

Bidvest Wits will step up their attempts to sign Orlando Pirates midfielder-cum-defender Abbubaker Mobara before the end of the transfer window.

Mobara has been linked with Wits for some time and Clever Boys coach Gavin Hunt is hoping that a deal can be reached between his club and Pirates that would see the 23-year-old move to Milpark.

“I still have hope that we’ll get him. I’m not involved with the talks, it’s the chairman that’s handling things, something will happen in the coming days. I’m hoping,” Hunt is quoted as saying by Isolezwe.

Pirates coach Micho Sredojevic refused to comment on Mobara leaving Pirates, only saying the player is important to Pirates hence he gave him the armband during the Mamelodi Sundowns game.

Sredojevic made Mobara the stand-in captain in the absence of skipper Thabo Matlaba, who was serving a one-match suspension.

Wits have already signed Lehlohonolo Majoro, Edwin Gyimah and Denis Wildliech during the current transfer period.

The Students have also snapped up Cape Town City captain Robyn Johannes and Polokwane City’s Thobani Mncwango on pre-contracts.
