I will have to work twice as hard to replace Keet – Khune

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune was impressed by Darren Keet's performance during Bafana Bafana’s win against Libya.

Keet made superb saves to help Bafana beat Libya 2-1 away in Tunisia.

Khune, who is still nursing a shoulder injury, admits that Keet has put his hand up to replace him as the first choice goalkeeper in the national team.

“It’s always great to see all the departments competing and keeping each other on our toes‚” Khune told SowetanLIVE. “So‚ that one we will leave to the coach [Stuart Baxter]. I will get back on the field. I will have to work twice as hard to win my No 1 back.

“But Darren Keet did extremely well. I wouldn’t be surprised if he keeps the jersey for a long period of time. Because I’ve also travelled along that journey of being the national team No 1 for a number of years.”

Khune is expected to return to training in May, just few weeks before South Africa travel to Egypt for the Afcon, which is set to take place between June 21 to July 19.
