Kaizer Chiefs made great signings – Bobby Motaung

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has hit back at Amakhosi fans who accuse him of signing average players for the team.

Some Chiefs fans are blaming Motaung for the team’s poor start, saying he didn’t back coach Steve Komphela by signing quality players for him.

Chiefs signed Dumisani Zuma, Teenage Hadebe, Bhongolwethu Jayiya and Philani Zulu during the August transfer period, but they continue to struggle this season, winning just two of their seven matches play so far this season.

“Kaizer Chiefs is not a one-man show. I’m not the owner of this team, therefore I cannot make decisions by myself. This [criticism] is very strange because when the team sign good players and they turn out to be a success for the club, people are always saying the coach signed good players,” Motaung told IOL.

“When the players don’t do well, they always say Bobby didn’t sign good players.

“Chiefs it is a big institution – there’s a board of directors, management, committees and the technical team, and I’m the administrator.

“I still maintain we made great signings. We also promoted good young stars. Some of the players we signed haven’t even played.

“Sometimes I also blame it on you journalists. I don’t know how you report. Let us wait until the end of the season, then we are able to judge. Right now, it is too early in the season.”

Asked about coach Steve Komphela’s future Motaung said: “The coach still has a contract with the club, and it is too early in the season to make emotional decisions. We will sit down and analyse what happened in the Baroka game and move forward.”

Chiefs’ next game is against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday, October 17.
