Khoza makes U-turn on Mhlongo joining Chippa

Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza has made a U-turn and decided against releasing goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo to Chippa United, Phakaaathi has heard.

A source close to Mhlongo’s agent, Mike Makaab says the he said the keeper will now remain with Pirates and the Chilli Boys may be offered either Jackson Mabokgwane or Siyabonga Mpontshane instead.

“Mike made it clear that Mhlongo is no longer going to Chippa. He said Khoza phoned him and told him that he wants to keep Mhlongo at Pirates. It is not clear at the moment whether he will give Chippa another goalkeeper instead,” said the source.

Phakaaathi reported last week that Khoza was unhappy with how Chippa chairman Siviwe Mpengesi handles affairs by running to the media announce deals when they have not been sealed.

Another source said Chippa may lose out as Premiership new boys AmaZulu have also asked Bucs to loan them one of their goalkeepers.

“AmaZulu wanted Mhlongo and asked that he be sold or loaned to them. Maybe Khoza has accepted their offer and that is why he doesn’t want Mhlongo to to go to Chippa anymore. Or he may send another to AmaZulu and keep Mhlongo at Pirates,” said the source.
