Khumalo replaces Ntseki as Amajimbos head coach

The SA Football Association (Safa) has named Vela Khumalo as the new coach for the SA Under-17 men's team ahead of the Cosafa Men’s Under-17 tournament in Malawi later this month.

Khumalo replaces Molefi Ntseki, who has since been appointed as the senior national men’s team coach. Khumalo has worked with Ntseki before at Amajimbos, being part of the technical team that led the team to the Under-17 Fifa World Cup in Chile.

The new Amajimbos coach said he had learned a lot from Ntseki over the years and he was honoured to have been given the role.

“It truly is an honour to have been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the country’s football squad in the upcoming COSAFA Under-17 Championship,” Khumalo said.

“I have learned a great deal working with a man like coach Molefi Ntseki, and I hope to apply every lesson learned into this new generation of Under-17 players.

“The upcoming Cosafa Championship is not going to be an easy one; however, we will do everything in our powers to fight for the title.”

South Africa are in Group A alongside hosts Malawi, Zambia and Eswatini, while Group B consists of Lesotho, Comoros, Angola and Mozambique.

The competition will run from October 11 until October 20 in the city of Blantyre in Malawi.
