Manqele talks about his difficult time at Chiefs

Chippa United striker Edward Manqele says he is enjoying his football again after his difficult time at Kaizer Chiefs during his stay with the club.

Manqele spent almost two seasons at Chiefs between August 2015 and April 2017, having joined the club from Chippa United.

The 30-year-old is back at Chippa after a successful stint with Free State Stars last season.

He scored the third goal for the Chilli Boys during Saturday’s 3-0 win over Chiefs at FNB Stadium last weekend. This was his first goal for Chippa this season.

“I am pleased to have scored my first goal for the Club but most importantly that I helped my team win on Saturday. Credit should go to all the players and Technical Team for a job well done,” Manqele told the Chippa website.

“I am now in a good space, feeling confident again. There are more goals to come before the end of the season. I want to continue scoring or assisting my teammates so that we can secure top eight.”

The Randfontein-born player says he was confident that he would score against Amakhosi on Saturday.

“When there was an opportunity to come here (to) don the blue and white, I did not think twice. I am grateful for the opportunity offered to me once more by the executive chairman [Siviwe Mpengesi].

“The goal meant a lot on Saturday considering the difficult time I had at Kaizer Chiefs. I struggled to get game time and when I started playing I had to go for a surgery and it was then difficult to break into the team. I love scoring goals and I was confident that I will score on Saturday after identifying gaps on their defence. I now want to score more,” said the forward.
The next match for Chippa will be against Ajax Cape Town at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday.

“I have not lost against Ajax Cape Town in my career. I have always scored against them since my earlier days at Free State Stars then at Mamelodi Sundowns, It is important that we finish strongly. There are no guarantees in football and even though we are seventh we are not guaranteed a top 8 position,” concluded Manqele.
