Mazembe tactics may just suit SuperSport – Brockie

Jeremy Brockie is adamant that whatever strategy TP Mazembe choose to deploy when they meet SuperSport United will almost certainly play into Matsatsantsa's hands.

The teams are set to meet in a Caf Confederation Cup matchv in Atteridgeville on Saturday night.

Mazembe can opt to protect the 2-1 win they mustered in the first leg, or decide to unsettle United by going for the away goal. Whatever the case may be, Brockie is confident they can overcome the Congolese heavyweights.

“I think we’re in a good position and we need to be patient and play the game smart,” he said.

“I don’t know what their mindset is. Do they come here and try get an away goal which is going to open them up a little bit? Or do they sit back and allow the attacking quality that we have in our team to come up?

“We kept ourselves in the game and we don’t need to come here and score four or five goals. We have a lot of good attacking players and you can’t keep us quiet for two games in a row.”

Brockie, who is the competition’s leading marksman with 10 goals to his credit, says he would love to at least add two goals to his tally, which would almost certainly see United being crowned Confed Cup champions.

“It is a nice roller-coaster that I am on at the moment and it would be brilliantly topped off if we can win the trophy. These are the sort of competitions and trophies that you remember as a player and no one remembers the teams that lost in the final. I will be giving it my all and hopefully I can help the team to be successful,” said the African Player-of-the-Year.

The New Zealand-born striker continued: “When I first came to South Africa I wanted to get into this competition, test myself and see where it would lead to and at the moment I am the top goal scorer in the competition and we find ourselves in the final. I was lucky enough to be nominated in the top 30 players on the continent, it is a great feeling.”
