Former Chiefs player in bitter papgeld drama – report

He was apparently slapped with a maintenance order at the SABC studios in full view of his colleagues.

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana player Siphiwe Mkhonza is reportedly embroiled in a papgeld drama with his former fiancée. The 37-year-old, who was known as Doctor Mnandi, will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court next month, City Press has reported.

The mother of his child reportedly arrived unannounced at the SABC studios just before 6.30pm as the soccer analyst was preparing for his show, SoccerZone, on Monday with a subpoena and maintenance order.

Mkhonza was reportedly embarrassed as his colleagues witnesses the scene.

However, when contacted for comment, Mkhonza said he did not know what people were talking about.

“Someone out there is just targeting me,” he was quoted as saying.

Though he apparently paid lobola for the mother of his child three years ago, his friends reportedly told the publication he had not been financially supporting his child for the past 10 months.

They further said the mother of his child had no intentions of embarrassing when she walked into the SABC studios with police, but had no choice after making several calls to him. He was allegedly always rude to her.

His friends, however, told the publication they did not understand why he was failing to maintain his child when he could afford to do so.

Another said though Mkhonza was a wonderful father, problems started when the couple broke up last year, but all the woman wanted from him was to “just do the right thing for our child”.
