Micho questions timing of Mokwena’s Bafana call-up

Orlando Pirates head coach Milutin Sredojevic has admitted that Rhulani Mokwena's call to help out Bafana Bafana has not come at an ideal time for the Buccaneers.

Bafana Bafana head coach Stuart Baxter is taking Buccaneers assistant coach Mokwena with him for South Africa’s participation in a four nation tournament in Zambia from March 22-25.

Pirates, however, are in the midst of a race for the Absa Premiership crown with Mamelodi Sundowns. At the moment, the Buccaneers sit four points behind Masandawana at the top of the table.

“I would tell you that call up, with all due respect, has come at the wrong time for us, because instead of us keeping total peace and concentration …” said Sredojevic, before rather tailing off, after Pirates had been knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by Cape Town City on Wednesday.

Sredojevic did, however, also express his delight that Mokwena had the opportunity to work with Bafana.

“I am extremely happy Rhulani is part of the technical team for the tournament in Zambia,” he added.

“I believe he will make a huge contribution, with an absence for us of a few days only, which we will have to bridge and prepare for the games after the Fifa break.”
