Pirates found guilty of spectator misbehaviour

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced its verdict on the matter involving Orlando Pirates and spectator misbehaviour.

On February 11 this year, disgruntled Pirates fans invaded the pitch and also ransacked the Loftus Versfeld Stadium, with Mamelodi Sundowns leading 6-0.

The match was halted in the 82nd minute to calm matters, before it was allowed to resume nearly an hour later.

Now after 10 months, the PSL Disciplinary Committee has finally reached its verdict on the matter.

“The Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee has released its ruling on the matter involving Orlando Pirates and spectator misbehaviour,” read a PSL statement.

“The League had charged Orlando Pirates with contravening Rule 54 of the NSL Handbook (Rules) following acts of hooliganism by a section of supporters during the Absa Premiership fixture between Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates on 11 February 2017 where some fans invaded the pitch.

“The PSL Disciplinary Committee found Orlando Pirates guilty. The DC will reconvened next year to impose sanction on the Member Club.”

Meanwhile, the PSL said charges against Sundowns will be heard in January next year.
