Pirates join race for Celtic’s Mahlasela

Orlando Pirates have become the latest club to show interest in Bloemfontein Celtic midfielder Kabelo Mahlasela.

As mentioned on Phakaaathi on Tuesday, Platinum Stars and Maritzburg United have already shown interest in the 26-year-old midfielder.

It is understood that Mahlasela’s contract at the Free State-based club ends at the end of the season. Celtic, however, have an option to renew for one more season, but they have until end of May to do so.

“Pirates have enquired about his availability. They want him back because they feel that he has earned enough experience to add value to the team,” said a source close to Celtic.
Mahlasela is a product of the Pirates academy, having graduated from the Buccaneers in 2012.

He spent some time at Roses United, Sivutsa Stars and Royal Eagles on loan from Pirates, before signing for Siwelele on a free transfer in 2015.

He has been a marvel to watch at Celtic this season.
