Pirates striker shares heart-breaking story about daughter’s death

In the interview with SABC Sport on Wednesday, Mulenga revealed that he stayed with the Chipolopolo in Nigeria for their last World Cup qualifier despite receiving news that his two-year-old daughter had passed away.

“My daughter passed on when I was in Nigeria for the qualifiers. I told the coach and he told me that these things happen in life, and he told me that I was one of the people he was counting on for the game,” said Mulenga.
“I knew that even if I got bad news from home I had to play. I knew that a lot of people in the world were going to watch this game, I knew that team overseas would see me if I played in that game. But even if I had not played the game there was nothing I could do to bring my daughter back, so I sacrificed so that people that could change my life see me play.”
Mulenga was voted as Zambia’s Player of the Year after his achievements with Zanaco United and dedicated the award to his late daughter.
