Pitso reveals how Sundowns beat Cape Town City

Pitso Mosimane was delighted as his tactics worked to perfection in Wednesday night's win over Cape Town City.

Goals from Lebohang Maboe, Anthony Laffor, and Phakamani Mahlambi were enough to give Sundowns a 3-2 win over City at Loftus Stadium.

Riyaad Norodien and Kermit Erasmus scored the goals for Benni McCarthy’s side.

The win saw the Brazilians move to the summit of the Absa Premiership standings.

“It’s always good to have five goals for people who come to the stadium. It’s a thriller, it’s stress, it’s good. Good game,” Mosimane told SuperSport TV.

“I didn’t see the penalty, to be honest. I told them at halftime that 1-0 is not going [to] help us, we need a two-goal cushion in this game because I know Cape Town City don’t park the bus. They play and they will come at us, that’s exactly what they did.

“Credit must [go] to Benni his team plays well but we had to shut-down the midfield. We shut-down Teko (Modise) and don’t give Thato Mokete enough time on the ball. We closed Teko down hence Benni took him out. He’s a good player and can distribute the balls. ‘Keke’ [Hlompho Kekana] played a little bit stronger on him.

“But let’s be honest, we should have scored two or three more, hey. Inasmuch as they are a good team, we had a lot of chances, as I always say, Sundowns can miss,” concluded Mosimane.

Sundowns’ next game is against Bloemfontein Celtic at home on Saturday afternoon.
