Senegal name Sadio Mane in squad to face Bafana Bafana

Senegal coach Aliou Cisse sprung a surprise on Wednesday, naming Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane in his 25-man squad for next month’s two crucial 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Bafana Bafana.

Mane injured his hamstring in Senegal’s last World Cup qualifier, a 2-0 victory in Cape Verde earlier this month, and was subsequently ruled out of action by his club for up to six weeks.

This means he seems highly unlikely to be fit for Bafana’s clash with Senegal in Polokwane on November 10 or the rematch in Senegal four days later.

Cisse, nevertheless, reportedly claimed that Mane would be back in training “next week” as he named his squad.

“Sadio Mane has started training on his own again and will probably be back in full training next week,” said Cisse, according to @SenegalFootball.

Senegal are currently top of Group D, and need to win just one more game to reach the World Cup in Russia. Bafana have to beat Senegal home-and-away to qualify.
