Sundowns holding thumbs for Zwane’s return

Mamelodi Sundowns midfield wizard Themba 'Mshishi' Zwane has been missing in action since he sustained a hamstring injury in October but he has returned to full training since the last week of November.

The Brazilians are in Morocco where they will face arch-rivals Wydad Casablanca in the Caf Champions League on Saturday evening in Group C action where Masandawana currently sit at the top after one round of matches.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane hopes that the skilful Zwane will be ready to take on the Moroccan giants, hoping that the 30-year-old will continue where he left off last season as the competition’s top goalscorer with four goals as Downs bowed out of last season’s edition at the hands of Wydad in the semifinals.

“He (Zwane) is yet to play a game in a very long time. We will see how he is. He started to train fully with the team just a day before the AmaZulu game so let’s see him again and see how far ready he is,” said “Jingles”, who of course is hoping to register a first win away to Wydad since the African giants launched their rivalry in 2017.

“A good result for us is a win. The history is not on our side but there is always a first time [for everything]. We have got to try and win here because it is very difficult to win against Wydad in Casablanca but we never know, we have to try,” said the former Bafana Bafana coach.
