Sundowns legend admits to wasting money on booze

Former Mamelodi Sundowns winger Joel Masilela would like to see the current generation of players learn from his mistakes by using their money wisely.

Masilela says he squandered the money he earned throughout his football career on alcohol and did not invest or save it.

“I drank all my money and I only have myself to blame,” Masilela told DailySun.  “I even failed to buy myself a house ekasi and never had flashy cars even though I was a football star.”

The former Bafana Bafana winger has no regrets over how he used his money but would like his life to be a lesson to some players.

“I played football for the love of it and nothing else. I don’t regret becoming a professional player because football was in my heart. I’m not complete without football and cannot live without it.”
