Sundowns win was a statement – Nomvethe

PSL's all-time goalscorer Siyabonga Nomvethe says AmaZulu's 2-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns was a message to the rest of the teams in the league.

“It was a statement for everyone not to underestimate us and take us as newcomers,” said Nomvethe.

“We are the same as the rest of the teams because what’s important is that on the pitch it is 11 versus 11,” added the 39-year-old.

Nomvethe extended his lead at the top of the all-time PSL scoring charts, while teammate Mabhudi Khenyeza got his 107th top flight goal. The former Kaizer Chiefs striker says youngsters should take leaf from him and Khenyeza.

“From my side, when the youngsters see me and Mabhudi, they must see role models and not people who will influence them baldy. When they see us, they must look at us and see that football is played for love.”

He added: “If you count the youngsters who are brilliant and those who you see were good enough to go to Europe, they are wasting their talents and not taking care of themselves. Some of them are nowhere to be found, while some have passed away because.”
