SuperSport coach Tinkler calls for mental fitness

SuperSport United lost their ninth Absa Premiership match on Wednesday night against Ajax Cape Town as they went down 2-0 to Muhsin Ertugral’s side.

Coach Eric Tinkler has asked his players to prove their mental toughness in their quest to distance themselves from the relegation zone and fight for a spot in the top half of the table.

“This is where we find ourselves right now and we’ve got to be strong enough mentally to get out of that position. We need to relay that message to the players that they need to get a result against Maritzburg United,” he told reporters.

“They can’t allow complacency or the confidence to drop. I have seen us play a lot worse than what we did against Ajax. I kind of take the positives from that. We have to get better going forward and be more sure at the back,” said Tinkler.

“We can’t be talking about the same thing week in week out and continue to make the same mistakes. We have to rectify that,” the former Cape Town City mentor added as his team prepare to host Fadlu Davids’ Maritzburg United on Saturday evening in the capital city.
