Tau is what Bafana needs – Pitso

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane backs attacking wizard Percy Tau to get his maiden Bafana Bafana call-up.

The former Bafana mentor says whoever Safa decides to appoint as the next national team coach should consider giving the 22-year-old a chance a national level as he continues to prove his worth with Masandawana.

“I don’t think we have a player who is brave like that in Bafana, who causes problems. He just runs everywhere, we just need someone who is fearless, who will cause a little bit of trouble.

“Percy is forever one-on-one with the goalkeepers. Against Orlando Pirates, he was one-on-one, against Kaizer Chiefs he was one-on-one, he even went around the goalkeeper, even against Golden Arrows. All the time, we need that in the national team. But if it is a local coach, then obviously. We are struggling with the goals, I hope he gets the nod, but it is not for me to say,” Mosimane said at the club’s training base in Chloorkop.

‘Jingles’ also revealed that he was working on transforming Tau into a top class player, but would not be an easy task, with players like Aubrey Ngoma, among others, making strong intentions on the field to earn the prestigious gong.

“My issue with Percy is to turn him into Player-of-the-Year in South Africa, we are working on it. I had this issue with Khama Billiat, we accomplished it, I said step aside, let’s help the younger ones.

“Percy is not alone, there are a lot of players who are playing well. Cape Town City players are playing well, Gabadinho Mhango is playing very good football, let’s be honest and recognise people who are doing very well … but Percy is also in line for that. I think he has done exceptionally well,” he said.
