Tinkler hits out at match officials

Eric Tinkler shifted the blame to match officials' time-keeping after his SuperSport United side were denied all three points by Polokwane City on Tuesday night at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

SuperSport looked like they had the game, set and match when they held a 1-0 lead courtesy of Morgan Gould’s 30th-minute header.

Puleng Tlolane’s stoppage-time equaliser, however, reminded Matsatsantsa A Pitori that “it is not over until the fat lady sings”.

“The referee said four minutes added time, then the fourth official says it’s five minutes added on and then the referee ended up playing six minutes. It was a massive kick on the back,” Tinkler told SuperSport TV after the game.

Matsatsantsa have been in lukewarm form of late, having only scored twice in six Absa Premiership games since the turn of the year. Tinkler is looking to find a solution for his side’s shortcomings up front as he is deep into the market searching for a proven goalscorer in the wake of Jeremy Brockie joining crosstown foes Mamelodi Sundowns.

“We work according to a budget and to find a quality striker is not going to come cheap because we don’t have a blank cheque, like other teams in this country. So we have to make sure that whoever we bring in is the right person,” said Tinkler.

“It is not that we have only started searching now. The search has been on since the day I arrived at the club and it is not easy to find that striker, somebody who is going to bring something new and fresh to the changing-room,” he added.

Tinkler already has the likes of experienced campaigners in Kingston Nkhatha and Bradley Grobler, but he insists on bringing in an other seasoned forward to lead his front line.

“It is also important for people to understand the players want to see some quality coming into the squad. We have got some quality youngsters coming through, but at the same time we need to bring in experience and finding that person is not an easy task, because they don’t come cheap and that is the reality of it.”
