Top four finish a possibility for SuperSport – Tinkler

Given SuperSport United’s lukewarm form in the Absa Premiership this season, Eric Tinkler is optimistically looking beyond a top eight spot and targeting a top four finish come end of the 2017/18 campaign.

Matsatsantsa A Pitori are currently 12th on the log and have an opportunity to march into top half of the table on Tuesday night if they defeat rock bottom Platinum Stars in Rustenburg.

“We win this game, we get the three points and we find ourselves in the top eight, that’s more important right now,” Tinkler told Phakaaathi.

“We then start to focus on the next one and maybe [if we] win two or three games in a row we can find ourselves in the top four. The league is so tight that every point is essential right now.

“You lose one game and you find yourself at the bottom, you win one game, you find yourself in the top-eight, that’s just the harsh reality,” he added.

The former Orlando Pirates mentor says his side’s focus is solely on collecting all three points against Dikwena, insisting that they don’t have one eye focused on their capital city derby against league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

“At this stage, we don’t think about the Saturday game, we don’t really care about the Saturday game, we only care about Platinum Stars because the most important points right now are the three points against them, not against Sundowns,” said Tinkler, who reckons that their arch rivals are in pole position to claim a third title in five years.

“The league is so tight right now and it looks like Sundowns are the only ones who look to be running away with the league and everybody else is struggling to get on a winning streak of three or four games in a row.”
