We have nothing to lose against Chiefs – Kannemeyer

The Magic FC coach David Kannemeyer believes he has prepared his players well for the Kaizer Chiefs game.

The ABC Motsepe League side take on Chiefs in a Nedbank Cup last 16 match in Port Elizabeth on Sunday.

Amakhosi coach Ernst Middendorp has hinted at fielding players that have not enjoyed game time at the club, but Kannemeyer says his side will only focus on what they can do to win the game.

“They (Chiefs) should do what they do, we plan on what we have to do,” Kannemeyer told Phakaaathi. “We are going to go out and enjoy the game, it could be the first and the last time (they play Chiefs) you never know. Whoever plays on the day knows what is expected of him.”

“As the coaching staff we have to give them confidence for them to forget and see it as 11 versus 11. At the moment we are not worried about the score, they need to go and express themselves and maybe get a PSL contract,” added the former Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns defender.

The Magic FC midfielder Wade Crowie is confident that his teammates would not be star struck when they come up against their idols.

“This is the biggest team we have played against, but the players are not too nervous, we are excited but not nervous,” explained Crowie. “Our strikers have been scoring in the ABC League, so we look to them, we don’t put pressure but we have talked about doing what they coach has instructed us to do on the day.”
