BACK IN TIME: Gibbs recalls his six sixes, congratulates Pollard

“March a popular month for hitting six sixes,” tweeted Gibbs, who achieved his milestone at the World Cup in March 2007.

Former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs has congratulated and welcomed Kieron Pollard to the six-sixes-in-an-over-club.

West Indies captain Pollard registered the milestone in a T20 international against Sri Lanka in Antigua and Barbuda on Thursday.

Pollard became only the third man to accomplish the feat, after Gibbs hit six sixes in an over against the Netherlands at the 2007 50-overs World Cup and India Yuvraj Singh did the same at the 2007 T20 World Cup against England.

The big West Indian took a liking to Sri Lanka off-spinner Akila Dananjaya in the sixth over of the home team’s batting innings, and only a few minutes after the bowler had taken a hat-trick.

West Indies won the game at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.

“March a popular month for hitting six sixes,” tweeted Gibbs, who is currently in Pakistan, coaching in the Pakistan Super League.

Gibbs hit his sixes on March 16; Pollard his on March 4.

“Welcome Kieron Pollard,” said Gibbs, also referencing the fact that all three men who have now achieved the milestone played for the Mumbai Indians in the India Premier League.
