Businesses robbed

Two business robberies were reported to the Springs police over the weekend.

The first incident took place on Friday at a business in Apple Avenue, Oranjehof.

According to Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora, two security guards at the business were approached by four robbers at 10:30pm.

Two of the robbers were armed and instructed the guards to lie down. They then cuffed the guards’ hands and tied their ankles together with shoelaces.

Capt Ramphora adds the guards did not see the robbers while they robbed the premises, but after about three to four hours they heard the sound of a car leaving and they then screamed for help.

Two security guards at the neighbouring building heard the screams and came to their rescue.

“The suspects gained entry by bending the palisade fencing and breaking the storeroom padlock,” says Capt Ramphora.

The robbers took off with copper cables and seven wheels they stole from parked bakkies.

The second incident took place in Cadmium Street in Daggafontein on Saturday at around 10pm.

A security guard saw six robbers entering the premises when he was doing his 10pm patrol.

One of them was armed with a firearm and the other five were armed with bush knifes.

“The armed robber pointed the firearm at the guard and demanded he hand over his firearm, but he didn’t have one,” says Capt Ramphora.

The robbers searched him and took both the work and his private cellphone, a panic button and the keys to the gate.

Capt Ramphora adds they took the victim to the guard hut and tied his hands up with electric cable and his feet with shoe laces.

One of the robbers stayed with the victim, while the other five left. A little while later, they all left the premises.

“The robbers gained entry by cutting the razor wire at the fence. They also cut through the security bars at the windows of the building. It is unknown what went missing,” concludes Capt Ramphora.

No shots were fired and no arrests have been made in either of these cases.

Anyone with information on these cases can contact the Springs police on 011 365 5700/19/20 or Capt Ramphora on 079 694 6936.
