Top class performers

South Africa’s top ten choirs performed at the inaugural Ekurhuleni Melting Pot National Chorale Festival which was held at Carnival City on October 19.

The festival was held as a tribute to late freedom fighter Oliver Reginald Tambo, and it was a powerful showdown of the country’s most majestic and mesmorising voices for the ultimate cash prize of R250 000.

“The month of October is dedicated to celebrating the life and legacy of O R Tambo in the City of Ekurhuleni and the chorale competition not only added flare to the month long celebrations, but paid homage to the leader who was also an accomplished choir master who enjoyed chorale and classical music,” says Metro spokesman Sam Modiba.

The 10 choirs that performed were:

* Kopano Chorus – Gauteng

* Voices of the Nation – Gauteng

* Thabong Serenade – Free State

* Gauteng Choristers – Gauteng

* Clermont Community Choir – Kwazulu-Natal

* Heavenly Voices – Western Cape

* Belcanto Voices – Free State

* African Chorus – Kwazulu-Natal

* SA Singers – Kwazulu-Natal

* Transnet Port Terminal Choir – Eastern Cape

The choirs pleased the crowd with their top-class voices and gave the performance of a lifetime, but there could only be one winning choir.

They all gave amazing performances, but the group that outshined the rest was the Clermont Community Choir from KwaZulu-Natal who walked away with the cash prize of R250 000.
