Rugby club vandalised

Springs Rugby Club has again suffered at the hands of vandals.

During the last week of December thugs forced open a door to gain access to the bottom of the pavilion where the geyser is kept.

“We are not certain yet, exactly what the damage to the geyser is as the the person responsible for the key is still on holiday,” says Hans Bothma, chairman of the club.

The water is still clearly visible as it was flowing down to the A-field as the ground could not absorb more water.

According to Bothma there are a few problems that need to be solved by the metro’s parks department and the agreement needs to be revised.

With the rugby season starting soon, the players need to practice but Bothma says the lights are not working.

“A private electrician came out to inspect the lights last year and found them to be in working order but the bulbs were not working,” says Bothma.

After he contacted André Dry at the parks department, Bothma was allegedly informed by Dry that bulbs were not included in the budget.

“A cover from an electrical box was stolen and someone covered it with a black bag and tape. Not a safe solution,” adds Bothma after saying he has also reported this to the metro with no avail.

The metro was not able to comment at such short notice.
